Ragunan Zoo & Schmutzer Primate Center

Description

The zoo, opened in 1864, is home to more than 250 species from Indonesia and around the world spread over 140-hectares of beautiful, shady gardens. A great location for a picnic as well as a chance to walk or cycle around. Other facilities include a children’s zoo and the chance to meet orphaned orangutans.

The Schmutzer Primate Centre is a great experience both for children and adults.The primate collection includes gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees, gibbons, leaf monkeys, and macaques. Many of the Indonesian species have come from confiscation programs in Indonesia. The orangutan enclosure is set outdoors surrounded by glass windows located around the perimeter. Other facilities include a theater, library, playground, and an adventure trail with canopy bridge.
