Ocean Queen Resort
Description

The Ocean Queen Resort lies on the ruggedly beautiful and sparsely populated south coast of West Java, about 4 hours drive from Jakarta. This resort is a 17-km drive past Pulabuhan Ratu, located on beautiful unspoiled black volcanic sand beach with a smaller, more sheltered bay at one end. The setting is idyllic, on a long private beach bounded by cliffs and the Indian Ocean, set in paddy fields and coconut trees. The lush foothills of the volcano Gunung Halimun, the largest National Park in West Java, form the backdrop to the north. The sunsets are spectacular.

The Ocean Queen has traditional but comfortable, and modern bungalows, self catering and fully serviced; rooms; a lounge; a restaurant; a pool plus kid’s pool which are set in 2 hectares of tropical gardens.

You can fill every day with activities. Explore the pristine coast by boat or motorbike. Surf, swim, scuba-dive and fish in the blue water of the Indian Ocean. Trek, hike and bird and animal watch in the primary forest of Mount Halimun. White-water raft the rivers cascading down from the mountain. Walk along the pristine coast, beaches, bays and headlands of south-west Java. Watch the marine turtles lay their eggs at Ujung Genteng. Visit the hot springs, bat cave, local markets and towns..

Pulau Belitung
Description

Runner-up in 2015 Family Guide to Jakarta Top Weekend Breaks

You might not expect it from the island whose tin mines gave their name to Australian mining giant BHP Billiton, but Belitung is among the most beautiful islands in Southeast Asia. Pristine white sand beaches look out on a turquoise sea filled with great snorkelling and a fantastic display of off shore islands. Check out ‘Leebong Island,Tanjung Kelayang and Tanjung Tinggi for world class beaches without the hustle and bustle now found at beaches of this calibre elsewhere. Small uninhabited off shore islands range from white sand fringed coconut plantations to elaborate granite rock formations to long temporary sand bars of sand the quality of powdered sugar. Some are too far to swim to from the shore, but colourful local fishing boats will take you on an island tour.

Taman Budaya Sentul City
Description

This is a mini-sized outward bound facility for children. The outward bound playground consists of a series of challenges on rope/wood constructed equipment, with each station getting a little harder (and higher!), culminating in an exciting flying fox ride. On entry, all children are fitted with a safety harness, helmet and gloves. At each stage they are accompanied by the center’s staff who are safety conscious and reasonably well trained (though not much English spoken). The higher challenges are closely supervised and the children are well clipped in to the safety ropes and supports. Bring lots of water as the area does not have a lot of shade and gets hot. There is a camping ground at the centre and it is possible to arrange guided walks (with the kids carried by porters if you like) to nearby waterfalls and valleys. Restaurant and accommodation are available.

Ticket price:

IDR 270,000 (kids), IDR 350,000 (adults)

Weekdays subject to arrangement with minimum booking for 30 people.

Tanjung Lesung Sailing Club
Description

This club is 16 years and is currently owned and operated by a European who lives adjacent to the club. Eleven simple one- and two-bedroom cottages are available with only two being air-conditioned and equipped with hot water. There are in total 11 cottages, i.e. 8 cottages with two-bedrooms and 3 cottages with one-bedroom. The one-bedroom cottages do not provide hot water.

There are many activities including sailing and sailing course, canoeing, cycling, mountain biking, trekking/walking/jogging, swimming, fishing, shell collecting and mini soccer and hand ball. There is no swimming pool at the club but the sea was crystal clear – unpolluted, no surf, and free of vendors. Staff will organize and book speed boat trips to Krakatoa Volcano or other small island tours for snorkeling and fishing.

The restaurant has two chefs in attendance at all times, and the menu consists of Western as well as Indonesian dishes. Fish caught daily in the bay is a delicious specialty and the staff will do a great BBQ for you and the family.

The sailing club will also organize an “outward bound” experience from 2-4 nights for groups of up to 60. Such programs include accommodation, food, activities, raft building, rope climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and more.
